Rudraksha Malas have been used for meditation, chanting, and spiritual practice for centuries. But when someone goes to buy a Rudraksha Mala, the most common question is – “Why is its price so high or so low?”
The truth is that the price of a Rudraksha Mala depends not only on the number of beads but also on their quality, face, origin, and authenticity.
Traditionally, a Rudraksha mala is considered to have 54 or 108 beads, and it often has a Guru bead as well. A 108-bead mala is considered most auspicious after mantra chanting because it’s a complete chanting cycle.
Many bead counts mean more uses of Rudraksha beads, and that’s a reason prices are also increased. But only bead counting does not decide the value of the mala—the real difference lies in quality.
Rudraksha mala’s price is the highest due to the highest quality of beads. High-quality Rudraksha beads are naturally formed, with a clearly visible opening, a balanced shape, and no artificial polish.
Low-quality beads are often lightweight, cracked, or chemically treated. Such beads may look good, but are not effective for spiritual purposes. But they are not effective for a spiritual purpose. Therefore, a good-quality Rudraksha mala is expensive but more reliable spiritually.
Every Rudraksha bead have their own mukhi, and the rarer the mukhi, the more expensive the bead. Such as the 5 Mukhi Rudraksha, which is very common and affordable for a daily wearers.
On the other hand, 1-faced, Gauri Shankar, or high-faced Rudraksha are very rare. If a mala is made of these beads, then its price is naturally too high, even if the bead count is the same.
The origin of Rudraksha beads also determines the price. Nepal Rudraksha beads are big in size and come with heavy or deep mukhi lines. That’s the reason that Rudraksha mala is more valuable and expensive.
Indonesian Rudraksha beads are small and lightweight, but they are spiritually effective. These malas are comparatively budget-friendly and are a good choice.
