Hessonite (Gomed) carries the intense, unconventional frequency of Rahu—the north node.

Hessonite is a manganese-rich grossular garnet, not corundum. Sanskrit: Gomed or Gomedak. It is the primary ratna for Rahu—shadow planet of obsession, illusion, foreign lands, and mass influence.
Quality gomed shows honey-yellow to brownish-red colour with oily lustre and visible internal "treacle" streaks (swirl inclusions typical of hessonite).
Rahu governs foreigners, poisons, sudden events, and worldly ambition. Ardra, Swati, and Shatabhisha nakshatras connect to Rahu gems. Gomed is often prescribed during Rahu mahadasha or when Rahu afflicts the lagna.
Do not confuse hessonite with red almandine or pyrope garnet. True gomed is grossular with characteristic Rahu-appropriate appearance and Jyotish tradition.

Gomed suits afflicted Rahu, Rahu mahadasha, and those in media, politics, aviation, or tech facing instability. Often recommended when Rahu sits in lagna or with Moon.
Avoid if Rahu is already yogakaraka and well-placed without affliction. Discontinue if adverse effects appear—Rahu gems demand monitoring.
PureVedicGems reviews Rahu's house, nakshatra, and dasha before recommending gomed.
Rahu drives unconventional success. Gomed supports IT, film, politics, import-export, and breakthrough ventures.
Visa obstacles, foreign settlement, and cross-cultural business often link to Rahu remedies including gomed.
Traditionally worn to reduce confusion, phobia, and Rahu-induced anxiety or addiction tendencies—with professional help.
Associated with skin, digestion, and psychosomatic stress in Jyotish–Ayurvedic texts.
Gomed is believed to deflect hidden enemies and scandal when Rahu afflicts the 7th or 10th.
Honey yellow, orange-brown, and reddish hessonite. Oily lustre and swirl inclusions confirm identity.
Hessonite is rarely treated—synthetics and glass imitations are the main concern.
Transparency, colour, and size define value. Ceylon gomed with good clarity sits at mid to premium tiers.
Lab report should identify grossular garnet. RI ~1.74 and characteristic inclusions help confirm gomed.
Generally more affordable than corundum ratnas—entry-level to premium collector grades per carat.
Silver ring on middle finger is standard. Panchdhatu also traditional for Rahu–Shani overlap on Saturday.
Warm soapy water—garnet is 6.5–7.5 Mohs, durable for daily wear.
Protect from harder gems like sapphire and diamond.
Saturday Rahu mantra with mustard oil wipe and Gangajal rinse.
Citrine, amber, and glass are sold as gomed. Orange sapphire is a different planet's gem entirely.
PureVedicGems gemologically confirms grossular hessonite before listing as Gomed.
Primarily Rahu mahadasha/antardasha or when Rahu is severely afflicted in the birth chart.
Rahu is closely worked with Shani traditions; Saturday evening is the common energisation day for gomed.
Gomed is for Rahu; neelam is for Shani. Both may appear in complex charts—never self-prescribe both.
Both are valid hessonite colours. Transparency and correct mineral identity matter more than exact hue.
Traditionally worn for Rahu-related foreign karma. Legal immigration process remains primary.
Middle finger of the right hand in silver is classical.
Generally gentler than neelam but still requires chart approval. Monitor effects after wearing.
Rahu and Ketu gems together demand expert prescription—often not recommended without yoga analysis.
